Nature (of the Beast)

Over breakfast this morning some of the kids (including Ian) maintained that they had seen some sort of feral pig/wild boar/warthog terrorizing the area. I decided it was my duty to investigate.

Join me, won't you, on my nature walk/hunting trip through Grünewald?

Several hundred kilometers in, and still no sign of the creature.

Came across a lake known as Grunewaldsee, where I lay in wait for the leviathan to take a drink.

When he didn't, I delved deeper into the wood.

At the water's edge, the landscape was practically crawling with local fauna, though mostly of the insect and canine varieties. I did have a brief altercation with a sopping wet but persistent hund who insisted on playing fetch with my walking stick. Neither my tugging skills nor his owner's shrieks of "Nein, Emil! Ist nicht sein!" could dissuade the animal. I finally wrested myself (and my stick) free when he was distracted by, well, by another stick.

Still no sign of my quarry. If he even exists, he must be a nocturnal creature. I did find this, no doubt some kind of local voodoo talisman, which shows three dogs ripping and tearing at him and still unable to bring the mighty monster down.

I shall return to these woods. And I shall slay this behemoth. And when I do, we shall roast him and feast on his haunches!

Then Ian and I went for a bike ride.

Biking is fun. I got me a schnitzel, and we came back here.

You may have noticed the increase in post frequency. Because of the availability of a Mac and a fairly reliable wifi, I have been trying to keep you all up to date. I understand that for the next couple of days we may not have a wifi connection at all, as our new hostel, Green Eggs and Ham, has no internet in the house. They have no internet with a mouse. They have no internet with a fox. They have no internet in a box. They have no internet, Sam I Am. They have no internet at Green Eggs and Ham.

But, as always, somehow, the blog will find a way.
